there is a construction site of a medieval castle – Today

Have you ever wondered how would a real castle built using original 13th century tools?

Then it turns out that there is one such castle currently under construction: Château de Guédelon in a experiment called the “World’s Greatest Archaeological Study” – the construction began in 1997, and it is located about two hours drive south of Paris.

The site of the castle was chosen because it is rich in resources that are essential for construction of a castle, as it was in the Middle Ages:

A quarry for stones, a forest with abundant wood, and a small lake near the construction site.

The construction of the castle was made exclusively with tools from the medieval times – Moreover the workers are dressed in clothes that fit medieval times, in order to imitate as much as possible the construction of such a castle.

The construction site includes: builders, some carve and incise the stones and some who actually lay the bricks, carpenters and woodcutters, porters who transport the materials, blacksmiths who manufacture tools and other iron products. Everything!
